The oath-taking ceremony of the new Meghalaya government was attended by several national and local political leaders.

SHILLONG: Conrad K Sangma took over as the chief minister of Meghalaya for the second consecutive term in an event held in Shillong on Tuesday.

The oath-taking ceremony of the new Meghalaya government was attended by several political leaders. Some of them included the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda and North East Democratic Alliance convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, among others.

Conrad Sangma, the head of the National People’s Party took oath as the chief minister of the northeastern state for the second consecutive time. Seven elected members of the National People’s Party, two belonging to the United Democratic Party and one each from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Hill State People's Democratic Party also took oath as ministers for different departments in the event. Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan administered the official oath to the elected leaders in an event in the Raj Bhawan.

National People’s Party leaders Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar have been given the portfolio of Deputy Chief Minister. Apart from them, Marcuise N Marak, Rakkam A Sangma, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Comingone Ymbon and A T Mondal of the National People’s Party also got a position of cabinet ministers of the state of Meghalaya.

United Democratic Party’s Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla, Bharatiya Janata Party’s A L Hek and Hill State People's Democratic Party’s Shakliar Warjri also took oath as cabinet ministers.

The Conrad K Sangma Led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance - 2 has a total of 45 members and the National People’s Party has the single highest number of seats which is 26. The United Democratic Party has eleven elected members in the house. The Hill State People’s Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party have two members each.

The newly elected members had taken the oath of office and secrecy on Monday as administered by Timothy D Shira.
